The Culture of Mul-Baiyer-Lumusa

The local culture of inhabitants of the District is similar to the entire Highlands with clans forming tribal grouping through their descendants.

There are two dominant languages; the Mepla spoken by those in the Mul and parts of the Baiyer areas and the Baiyer language which is a sub-dialect of the Engan language. You can learn Basic Melpa on this Facebook Page.

Every other socio-cultual lifestyles throughout the District are similar in many ways.

Most of the cultural activities are communal and decided by clan or tribal elders.

Conflict resolutions are done through set government structures with the help of local leaders and elders.

The local churches also play important roles in strengthening order and justice.

However, the cash economy and political power struggles among local leaders have brought devastating outcomes to some communities in recent years.
